Hello! I'm Slimane KHAYI, a Bioinformatician and molecular biologist harnessing the genomic era to answer biological questions. My interests are DNA and RNA, so I work on several organisms, across the tree of life, that seems to be differents, Bacteria (Pectobacteriaceae), Fungi (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. albedinis), Plants(Argania spinosa, Phoenix dactylifera), whereas these organisms are more similar to each other than we are to all bacteria!
Some biological questions that I'm working on could be formulated as ;What are the pieces of DNA that code the pathogenicity of FOA on the host? How and why do bacterial genomes change over time? What about the genome of the Moroccan endemic Argania spinosa?
January 2017 - Present
I'm currently working as researcher at the Moroccan National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA). My current focus is on the genomics of endemic species Argania spinosa. We are taking advantages of the development of NGS technologies and genome-based approaches to highlight the genome patrimony of this precious species. In this context, we are addressing several issues such as molecular markers for important traits, conservation of the genetic resources.
January 2016 - December 2016
During my doctoral and postdoctoral stages, I worked on the soft rot pathogens Pectobacterium and Dickeya exploring multiple aspects such as genomics, evolution, virulence and ecology
